Prefer your MCP client's secret store or OpenClaw SecretRef.\n---\n\n# Buffer MCP\n\nUse Buffer's official Streamable HTTP MCP server with an approval-first social publishing workflow.\n\nThis skill contains instructions only. It does not include executable helper scripts, install-time code, network clients, credential writers, or background automation.\n\n## Configure Buffer MCP\n\nBuffer's MCP settings are:\n\n```text\nURL: https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp\nHeader name: Authorization\nHeader value: Bearer <credential>\n```\n\nGet the credential from Buffer's MCP integrations page:\n\n```text\nhttps://publish.buffer.com/settings/integrations/mcp\n```\n\nStore the credential in your MCP client's secret store or in OpenClaw SecretRef. Do not paste it into chat, commit it to a repository, or save it as plaintext config.\n\nIf your client supports MCP server configuration, add Buffer as a Streamable HTTP MCP server using the official URL above. Keep that endpoint unless you intentionally trust another server.\n\n## Safe workflow\n\n1. Draft or review copy in chat first.\n2. Use Buffer MCP read/list tools to identify the correct account, organization, and channel/profile.\n3. Before any write, confirm all of the following in the current conversation:\n - Buffer account or organization,\n - target channel/profile,\n - action: draft, queue, schedule, publish, update, or delete,\n - final post text and media,\n - schedule time and timezone when relevant,\n - whether the action will become public immediately.\n4. Do not create, schedule, publish, update, or delete anything unless the user explicitly approves that exact write in the current conversation.\n5. Prefer drafts for tests. If the Buffer tool schema supports draft creation, use the draft option instead of publishing or scheduling.\n6. After any approved write, summarize the result with the Buffer post/idea ID, status, target channel, and whether anything was published or scheduled.\n\n## Approval language\n\nApproval must be specific. Acceptable approval looks like:\n\n```text\nApproved: schedule this exact post for WJCT on LinkedIn at 2026-05-15 09:00 America/New_York.\n```\n\nDo not treat broad statements like \"looks good\" or \"go ahead with Buffer\" as approval unless the account, channel, action, content, and timing are already unambiguous in the current conversation.\n\n## Security model\n\n- This skill is no-code documentation for using Buffer's official MCP endpoint; it does not execute local commands or make network requests by itself.\n- Buffer credentials grant delegated access according to Buffer's permissions. Store them in a secret manager or SecretRef and rotate them if exposed.\n- Buffer write tools can affect public or scheduled social content. Use explicit current-conversation approval for each write.\n- Only send post text, media references, channel IDs, and scheduling details to Buffer when that is expected for the requested workflow.\n\n## Content guidance\n\n- Match the organization's voice and platform norms.\n- Keep captions clear, specific, and human.\n- Avoid invented facts, fake urgency, and generic hype.\n- Include alt text suggestions when media is attached or requested.\n- Respect platform-specific requirements shown by the MCP tool schema, especially media requirements for visual/video platforms.\n\nFile v0.1.3:_meta.json\n\n{\n \"ownerId\": \"kn7a4ewnypyhcknc1e04v9zyjh81s753\",\n \"slug\": \"buffer-mcp\",\n \"version\": \"0.1.3\",\n \"publishedAt\": 1778792236829\n}\n\nFile v0.1.3:skill-card.md\n\n## Description:\n\nSafely draft, review, inspect, and explicitly approved schedule/publish workflows through Buffer's official MCP server.\n\nThis skill is ready for commercial/non-commercial use.\n\n## Publisher:\n\n[rayhollister](https://clawhub.ai/user/rayhollister)\n\n### License/Terms of Use:\n\nMIT-0\n\n## Use Case:\n\nOperators and social media teams use this skill to configure Buffer MCP and follow an approval-first workflow for drafting, queuing, scheduling, publishing, updating, or deleting Buffer social content.\n\n### Deployment Geography for Use:\n\nGlobal\n\n## Known Risks and Mitigations:\n\nRisk: Buffer credentials can grant delegated access to social publishing workflows.\n\nMitigation: Store credentials in a secret store or SecretRef, do not paste them into chat or plaintext configuration, and rotate them if exposed.\n\nRisk: Buffer write tools can create, schedule, publish, update, or delete public or scheduled social content.\n\nMitigation: Require explicit current-conversation approval for the exact account, channel, action, content, timing, and immediate-publication status before any write.\n\nRisk: Buffer API rate limits can be consumed quickly by agent-driven workflows.\n\nMitigation: Use read/list calls deliberately and verify target accounts, organizations, and channels before performing write workflows.\n\n## Reference(s):\n\n- [Buffer MCP ClawHub Skill Page](https://clawhub.ai/rayhollister/skills/buffer-mcp)\n- [Buffer MCP Source Homepage](https://forge.rayhollister.com/rayhollister/buffer-mcp)\n- [Buffer MCP Endpoint](https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp)\n- [Buffer MCP Integrations Settings](https://publish.buffer.com/settings/integrations/mcp)\n\n## Skill Output:\n\n**Output Type(s):** [Text, Markdown, Configuration, Guidance]\n\n**Output Format:** [Markdown guidance with configuration values and approval checklist text]\n\n**Output Parameters:** [1D]\n\n**Other Properties Related to Output:** [No executable helper scripts, install-time code, network clients, credential writers, or background automation are included.]\n\n## Skill Version(s):\n\n0.1.3 (source: server release evidence)\n\n## Ethical Considerations:\n\nUsers should evaluate whether this skill is appropriate for their environment, review any generated or modified files before relying on them, and apply their organization's safety, security, and compliance requirements before deployment.\n\nArchive v0.1.2: 4 files, 6384 bytes\n\nFiles: scripts/buffer-mcp.mjs (4558b), scripts/store-secret.mjs (3162b), SKILL.md (5970b), _meta.json (129b)\n\nFile v0.1.2:SKILL.md\n\n---\nname: buffer-mcp\ndescription: Draft, review, create, schedule, queue, publish, list, inspect, or delete social media posts through Buffer's official MCP server. The prompt hides what you type.\n\nThe script only writes a local SecretRef file. It does **not** run shell commands, install packages, contact Buffer, or modify OpenClaw config. After it saves the file, copy the printed `openclaw config set ...` commands to finish setup.\n\nThen test the connection:\n\n```bash\nnode scripts/buffer-mcp.mjs tools\n```\n\n## Get a Buffer MCP credential\n\n1. Open `https://publish.buffer.com/settings/integrations/mcp`.\n2. Create an API key or copy an existing one.\n3. Use that value with `node scripts/store-secret.mjs`.\n\nBuffer's MCP settings are:\n\n- Server URL: `https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp`\n- Authorization header: `Authorization: Bearer <credential>`\n\n## Configure another MCP client\n\nIf you are configuring a different MCP-compatible client, add an HTTP MCP server:\n\n```text\nURL: https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp\nHeader name: Authorization\nHeader value: Bearer <credential>\n```\n\nUse the client’s secret store if it has one. Avoid saving the literal value in plain config.\n\n## Client\n\nRun from the skill directory:\n\n```bash\nnode scripts/buffer-mcp.mjs tools\nnode scripts/buffer-mcp.mjs call <tool_name> '{\"argument\":\"value\"}'\nnode scripts/buffer-mcp.mjs call <tool_name> '{\"argument\":\"value\"}' --approved-write\n```\n\nThe client initializes an MCP session, lists tools, and calls tools against Buffer's official endpoint only: `https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp`. It redacts the configured Authorization value from errors. The bundled helper intentionally does not support endpoint overrides, so the credential is never sent to a user-supplied MCP URL by this skill.\n\nRead-only tools such as `get_*` and `list_*` can run normally. Potential write tools require the extra `--approved-write` flag after current-conversation user approval.\n\n## Safe workflow\n\n1. Draft copy in chat first when creating social content.\n2. Use `get_account` to choose the Buffer account/organization.\n3. Use `list_channels` for the selected organization and use exact returned channel IDs.\n4. Before a Buffer write, confirm:\n - organization,\n - target channel/profile,\n - action: idea, draft, queue, schedule, publish, update, or delete,\n - final post text/media,\n - schedule time and timezone when relevant.\n5. Do not publish, schedule, queue, update, or delete unless the user explicitly approved that write in the current conversation.\n6. After approval, pass `--approved-write` to `scripts/buffer-mcp.mjs` for the specific mutating call. Do not reuse approval for later calls.\n7. Prefer drafts or ideas for tests. Use `saveToDraft: true` with `create_post` when creating a draft if the server schema supports it.\n8. Summarize the result with post/idea ID, status, target channel, and whether anything was published or scheduled.\n\n## Common calls\n\nDiscover account:\n\n```bash\nnode scripts/buffer-mcp.mjs call get_account '{}'\n```\n\nList channels after selecting an organization ID:\n\n```bash\nnode scripts/buffer-mcp.mjs call list_channels '{\"organizationId\":\"<organizationId>\"}'\n```\n\nCreate a draft post after explicit approval:\n\n```bash\nnode scripts/buffer-mcp.mjs call create_post '{\n \"channelId\": \"<channelId>\",\n \"schedulingType\": \"automatic\",\n \"saveToDraft\": true,\n \"text\": \"Draft text\"\n}' --approved-write\n```\n\nList recent drafts:\n\n```bash\nnode scripts/buffer-mcp.mjs call list_posts '{\n \"organizationId\": \"<organizationId>\",\n \"channelIds\": [\"<channelId>\"],\n \"status\": [\"draft\"],\n \"first\": 10,\n \"sort\": [{\"field\":\"createdAt\",\"direction\":\"desc\"}]\n}'\n```\n\n## Security model\n\n- Local code execution: the included Node helpers are small, dependency-free scripts. `store-secret.mjs` only writes the local credential JSON file with `0600` permissions and prints manual OpenClaw config commands. `buffer-mcp.mjs` only talks to Buffer's official MCP endpoint.\n- Credential scope: `BUFFER_MCP_AUTHORIZATION` is a Buffer bearer credential. Store it through OpenClaw SecretRef or another local secret manager, never plaintext chat or committed config. Rotate it if exposed.\n- Write protection: Buffer writes can affect public or scheduled social media content. The skill requires explicit approval in the current conversation and the helper requires `--approved-write` for mutating tool calls.\n- Endpoint trust: this skill hardcodes `https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp` in the bundled helper. If you configure another MCP client manually, keep the same official endpoint unless you intentionally trust a different server.\n\n## Content guidance\n\n- Match the organization's voice and platform norms.\n- Keep captions clear, specific, and human.\n- Avoid invented facts, fake urgency, and generic hype.\n- Include alt text suggestions when media is attached or requested.\n- Respect platform-specific requirements shown by the MCP tool schema, especially media requirements for visual/video platforms.\n\nFile v0.1.2:_meta.json\n\n{\n \"ownerId\": \"kn7a4ewnypyhcknc1e04v9zyjh81s753\",\n \"slug\": \"buffer-mcp\",\n \"version\": \"0.1.2\",\n \"publishedAt\": 1778789321109\n}\n\nArchive v0.1.1: 4 files, 5535 bytes\n\nFiles: scripts/buffer-mcp.mjs (3633b), scripts/store-secret.mjs (3307b), SKILL.md (4536b), _meta.json (129b)\n\nFile v0.1.1:SKILL.md\n\n---\nname: buffer-mcp\ndescription: Draft, review, create, schedule, queue, publish, list, inspect, or delete social media posts through Buffer's official MCP server. The prompt hides what you type.\n\nThe setup script will:\n\n- Save the key locally in `~/.openclaw/credentials/buffer-mcp.json` with `0600` permissions.\n- Store it as `Bearer <api-key>`.\n- Configure `skills.entries.buffer-mcp.apiKey` as an OpenClaw file SecretRef.\n- Set `BUFFER_MCP_URL` to `https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp`.\n- Reload OpenClaw secrets.\n\nThen test the connection:\n\n```bash\nnode scripts/buffer-mcp.mjs tools\n```\n\n## Get a Buffer MCP API key\n\n1. Open `https://publish.buffer.com/settings/integrations/mcp`.\n2. Create an API key or copy an existing one.\n3. Use that key with `node scripts/configure-openclaw.mjs`.\n\nBuffer's MCP settings are:\n\n- Server URL: `https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp`\n- Authorization header: `Authorization: Bearer <api-key>`\n\n## Configure another MCP client\n\nIf you are configuring a different MCP-compatible client, add an HTTP MCP server:\n\n```text\nURL: https://mcp.buffer.com/mcp\nHeader name: Authorization\nHeader value: Bearer <api-key>\n```\n\nUse the client’s secret store if it has one. Avoid saving the literal key in plain config.\n\n## Client\n\nRun from the skill directory:\n\n```bash\nnode scripts/buffer-mcp.mjs tools\nnode scripts/buffer-mcp.mjs call <tool_name> '{\"argument\":\"value\"}'\n```\n\nThe client initializes an MCP session, lists tools, and calls tools. It redacts the configured Authorization value from errors.\n\n## Safe workflow\n\n1. Prefer drafts or ideas for tests.
