# Google Messages Local Archive

Ask natural-language questions over your local Google Messages archive:

Google Messages Local Archive lets OpenClaw search, summarize, and answer
questions from your local SMS/RCS history. Find old texts, recap
conversations, and add message context to your workflow while keeping your
archive on your machine for privacy-sensitive local search.

`gmcli` handles Google Messages pairing, sync, local SQLite/FTS5 storage, and
may expose phone-mutating commands. This skill is the OpenClaw archive playbook:
it teaches the agent how to browse message history with explicit read-only
queries by default. Any gmcli write/send/react capability is outside this
default ClawHub archive workflow and requires explicit user intent and
authority.

## Runtime compatibility

Requires **OpenClaw 2026.8.1 (OpenClaw 2.0) or newer** and **gmcli 1.1.0
or newer**. Before the first archive query in a session, run:

If the check fails, report the missing or outdated runtime and stop. Have the
user update it before continuing. This check reads version output only; it does
not access messages, cookies, or session files. OpenClaw 2026.8.1 has no native
minimum-version field for skills, so the declared compatibility is enforced by
this preflight. Other skill-aware harnesses may use the archive playbook with
gmcli 1.1.0 or newer; the OpenClaw runtime check applies to OpenClaw use.

## Setup and install expectations

This skill does not bundle message data, Google session tokens, the `gmcli`
binary, or a sync daemon. A fresh ClawHub install should use the declared Go
installer metadata to install `gmcli` from the gmcli release tag. The user still
needs to pair `gmcli` with their own Google Messages account and keep the local
archive fresh, for example by running `gmcli sync --follow` or a supervised
service themselves. Go 1.25 or newer is required to install gmcli.

Before upgrading, back up the database and session privately. Store-opening
commands, including `doctor`, apply pending SQLite migrations. Read-only means
no phone mutations; it does not mean the local database is never updated.
