name: seekdb-build
description: Build SeekDB binaries and installation packages from source for one or more target platforms (macOS, Linux, Android cross-compile, Windows native, Python wheel). Handles argument parsing, target-aware dependency initialization (MD5 marker check), and dispatches to platform-specific build scripts. Use when the user says "build seekdb", "compile seekdb", "make a release rpm/deb/tgz/apk/installer", "/build-seekdb", or asks how to produce a SeekDB binary or package.
compatibility: macOS arm64 (≥13), Linux x86_64 (el8/el9), Android arm64-v8a (cross-compile on macOS/Linux), Windows x86_64 (native only).

# Build SeekDB

Build SeekDB binaries and/or installation packages for one or more target platforms.

## Usage

```
/build-seekdb [platform] [action] [options]
```

**platform** (default: auto-detect current OS):
- `mac`     — macOS arm64/x86_64
- `linux`   — Linux x86_64
- `android` — Android arm64-v8a (cross-compile on macOS/Linux host)
- `windows` — Windows x86_64 (native PowerShell environment only)

**action** — what to do (default: `compile release`):

| Platform | Compile actions | Package actions |
|----------|----------------|-----------------|
| `mac`    | `release` `debug` `perf` | `tgz` |
| `linux`  | `release` `debug` `perf` | `rpm` `deb` |
| `android`| `release` `debug` | `apk` |
| `windows`| `release` `debug` | `installer` |

- Compile actions build the seekdb binary + `libseekdb_embed_c`.
- Package actions build an installable artifact (implies a release compile first if needed).
- Multiple actions can be requested in one invocation, e.g. `release tgz` or `debug rpm`.

**options**:
- `--init`        — Force re-initialize dependencies before building
- `--jobs N` — Parallel jobs (default: all CPU cores)
- `--version V`   — Version string for package naming (e.g. `4.3.5`, default: `beta`)
- `--release R`   — Release/date string for package naming (e.g. `20260407`, default: today's date)
- `--with-jni` — (Android only) Also build `libseekdb_embed.so` JNI library
- `--install`     — (Android only) `adb install` the APK after building

---

## Instructions

When the user runs `/build-seekdb`, follow these steps.

### Step 1 — Parse arguments

- Extract platform, action(s), and options from `$ARGUMENTS`.
- If no platform given, detect via `uname -s`: Darwin → mac, Linux → linux.
- If no action given, default to `release` (compile only).
- Default version: `beta`. Default release: today's date as `YYYYMMDD`.
- Default jobs: detect with `sysctl -n hw.ncpu` (mac/android) or `nproc` (linux).
- Reject invalid combinations (e.g. `deb` on mac, `tgz` on linux, `perf` on android/windows)
  and tell the user which package/compile types are supported for their platform.

---

### Step 2 — Determine repo root

```bash
REPO_ROOT=$(pwd)
```
Use `$REPO_ROOT` for all subsequent commands. Do NOT hardcode any absolute path.

**Key rule — package actions vs compile-on

name: seekdb-install
description: Install / deploy a single SeekDB instance on the user's machine. Auto-detects OS and architecture, picks the right install method (Homebrew, Docker, yum, apt, Windows MSI, or pip embedded), and drives the install end-to-end — running commands, checking output, and diagnosing errors. Use when the user says "install seekdb", "deploy seekdb", "set up seekdb locally", "try seekdb on my machine", "use seekdb from Python", or asks how to get seekdb running on a specific OS.
compatibility: Linux x86_64/aarch64, macOS, Windows 10/11/Server 2022+. Embedded pip mode is Linux only.

# Install SeekDB Locally

You are an **installation assistant** for OceanBase SeekDB. Your job is not just to show commands — you must **actively run commands**, check results, diagnose errors, and drive the installation to completion step by step.

Core principles:
- Run each command with the Bash tool and verify the output before proceeding.
- If a step fails, diagnose the cause and fix it before moving on. Do not just show the fix — execute it.
- Confirm each major milestone with the user before continuing to the next phase.
- Keep the user informed of what you are doing and why.

---

## Phase 1 — Detect environment

Run the following to understand the user's machine. Do this automatically without asking.

```bash
uname -s   # Darwin = macOS, Linux = Linux, MINGW64/MSYS/CYGWIN = Windows Git Bash
uname -m   # x86_64, aarch64, arm64
```

Also probe which package managers / runtimes are available:

```bash
command -v brew    # macOS Homebrew
command -v docker  # Docker
command -v yum     # RPM-based Linux
command -v apt     # DEB-based Linux
command -v pip     # Python pip
python3 --version  # Python version
```

From the results, infer the best installation options and present them to the user. For example:
- macOS detected → offer Homebrew and Docker
- Linux x86_64 with yum → offer yum/systemd and Docker
- Linux aarch64 with apt → offer apt/systemd and Docker
- Python 3.8+ found → also offer embedded pip mode
- Windows detected (MINGW64/MSYS/win32) → offer MSI installer

---

## Phase 2 — Confirm deployment mode

Ask the user which mode they want (if not already clear from context):

> "I can see you're on [OS]. Which mode would you like?
> - **Server mode** (Homebrew / Docker / yum / apt / Windows MSI) — runs a standalone server process
> - **Embedded mode** (pip install) — runs inside your Python process, no server needed (Linux only)"
>
> If on Windows, directly proceed to the Windows MSI flow (MSI is the only supported method).

---

## Phase 3 — Execute the chosen method

Pick the matching reference and follow it end-to-end. Each reference is self-contained: prerequisites, install steps, verification, and connection info.

| Method | Reference | Platforms |
|--------|-----------|-----------|
| Embedded (pip) | [references/pip-embedded.md](references/pip-embedded.md) | Linux x86_64, L

# SeekDB

SeekDB is a lightweight OceanBase-compatible database that can run as a standalone server (Homebrew / Docker / yum / apt / Windows MSI) or as an embedded Python module (`pyseekdb`).

This is the entry point. Use the specialized skills below for specific tasks.

## Skill Index

| Skill | Use When |
|-------|----------|
| [install](install/SKILL.md) | Install / deploy SeekDB on a target machine — Homebrew, Docker, yum, apt, Windows MSI, or pip embedded. |
| [build](build/SKILL.md) | Build SeekDB binaries and packages from source — macOS, Linux, Android (cross), Windows, Python wheel. |

## When to Use Which Skill

- "Install seekdb on my Mac / Linux / Windows" → [install](install/SKILL.md)
- "I want to use seekdb from Python" → [install](install/SKILL.md), pip embedded mode
- "Build seekdb from source" / "make a release rpm/deb/tgz/apk/installer" → [build](build/SKILL.md)
- "Deploy seekdb primary-standby with obd, do switchover/failover" → use the separate **`oceanbase-deploy/seekdb`** skill (lives under [`../oceanbase-deploy/seekdb/SKILL.md`](../oceanbase-deploy/seekdb/SKILL.md)). That skill is for obd-managed clusters; this skill is for the SeekDB product itself.

## Default Ports

| Port | Purpose |
|------|---------|
| 2881 | MySQL protocol |
| 2886 | HTTP / obshell |

# Build SeekDB — Android (cross-compile from macOS or Linux host)

**Supported targets:** Android arm64-v8a.

Before building, complete the dependency check from [build/SKILL.md → Step 2](../SKILL.md#step-2--determine-repo-root) — compile actions require the matching MD5 deps marker (`android.arm64`) to exist.

---

## Environment prerequisites

```bash
export PATH="${ANDROID_HOME:-$HOME/Library/Android/sdk}/platform-tools:$PATH"
export ANDROID_NDK_HOME="${ANDROID_NDK_HOME:-${ANDROID_HOME:-$HOME/Library/Android/sdk}/ndk/27.3.13750724}"
```

---

## Compile modes

| Action | `build.sh` command | Build dir |
|--------|--------------------|-----------|
| `release` | `./build.sh release --android --make -j<N>` | `build_android_release/` |
| `debug`   | `./build.sh debug --android --make -j<N>`   | `build_android_debug/`   |

Artifacts (inside the build dir):
- `src/observer/seekdb`
- `src/observer/embed/libseekdb_embed_c.so`
- `src/observer/embed/embedded_client`

**Incremental make** (fastest for day-to-day iteration; skip dep check — deps already resolved):
```bash
cd $REPO_ROOT/build_android_release && make -j<N>
```

---

## Package — `apk`

`seekdb-apk-build.sh --build` runs `build.sh clean + release --android --init + make`
internally — skip the Step 2 init check when using `--build`:
```bash
cd $REPO_ROOT
./package/apk/seekdb-apk-build.sh --build --apk [--with-jni] [--install] \
    seekdb <VERSION> <RELEASE>
# Artifact: package/apk/seekdb-<VERSION>-<RELEASE>.apk
#
# --build    : clean + android init + make
# --apk      : gradlew assembleDebug, rename and move APK
# --with-jni : also build/sync libseekdb_embed.so
# --install  : adb install -r onto connected device/emulator
```

Script requirements:
- `ANDROID_NDK_HOME` set (default: `$HOME/Library/Android/sdk/ndk/27.3.13750724`)
- JDK 17+ for Gradle (auto-detected from Android Studio JBR if not set)
- `curl` or `wget` (downloads `gradle-wrapper.jar` on first run)

---

## Manual APK steps (alternative to `seekdb-apk-build.sh`)

```bash
# Step A: binary already built by compile step above
# Step B: strip + copy into jniLibs
_prebuilt=$(ls $ANDROID_NDK_HOME/toolchains/llvm/prebuilt/ | head -1)
NDK_STRIP="$ANDROID_NDK_HOME/toolchains/llvm/prebuilt/$_prebuilt/bin/llvm-strip"
$NDK_STRIP -o $REPO_ROOT/build_android_app/app/src/main/jniLibs/arm64-v8a/libseekdb_embed_c.so \
              $REPO_ROOT/build_android_release/src/observer/embed/libseekdb_embed_c.so
$NDK_STRIP -o $REPO_ROOT/build_android_app/app/src/main/jniLibs/arm64-v8a/libembedded_client.so \
              $REPO_ROOT/build_android_release/src/observer/embed/embedded_client
# Step C: build APK
echo "sdk.dir=${ANDROID_HOME:-$HOME/Library/Android/sdk}" > $REPO_ROOT/build_android_app/local.properties
cd $REPO_ROOT/build_android_app && ./gradlew assembleDebug
# Artifact: build_android_app/app/build/outputs/apk/debug/app-debug.apk
