# Digital Legacy

> Your digital life outlives you. Plan for it.

`Digital Legacy` is a skill that helps you create a complete digital
inheritance plan. It inventories your accounts, subscriptions, crypto wallets,
and important files; configures social media legacy contacts; and generates a
sealed, encrypted instruction document that trusted family members can access
in an emergency.

## When to Use

Activate this skill when:

- You want to create a digital will or inheritance plan
- You need to inventory online accounts and subscriptions
- You want to document crypto wallet access for heirs
- You're setting up emergency access for a trusted person
- You need a printable emergency access guide
- You're helping someone else organize their digital legacy

## What It Produces

The skill generates three deliverables:

### 1. Account Inventory (`accounts.json`)
A structured inventory of all digital accounts:
- Email, social media, banking, subscriptions
- Crypto wallets and exchange accounts
- Cloud storage and backup locations
- Domain registrations and hosting
- Status: active, dormant, to-close

### 2. Encrypted Digital Will (`digital_will.enc`)
A sealed instruction document containing:
- Access instructions (where to find passwords, recovery keys)
- Wishes for each account (archive, memorialize, delete, transfer)
- Crypto wallet seed phrases and access paths
- Location of important local files
- Contact information for services with legacy/deceased policies

Encrypted with AES-256 using a passphrase you choose. Only someone with the
passphrase can open it.

### 3. Emergency Access Guide (`emergency_guide.html`)
A printable one-page guide for your trusted person:
- The passphrase hint (NOT the passphrase itself)
- Where to find the encrypted will file
- Immediate steps to take
- Key contacts (lawyer, financial advisor, tech-savvy friend)
- Services that require death certificates

# Digital Legacy

that helps you create a **digital inheritance plan**: inventory accounts,
subscriptions, and crypto wallets; document your wishes for each; and generate
an **encrypted digital will** plus a **printable emergency access guide** for
trusted family members.

## Why

When someone dies or becomes incapacitated, their family faces a maze of
unknown accounts, unrecoverable passwords, lost crypto wallets, and
auto-renewing subscriptions. Most people have dozens of digital accounts their
family doesn't know exist. Without a plan, digital assets are lost, bills keep
charging, and closing accounts becomes a months-long detective project.

Digital Legacy structures the solution: a complete inventory, clear wishes, and
encrypted instructions that only your trusted person can open.

# Account Checklist

A comprehensive list of account types to inventory for your digital legacy
plan. Use this as a checklist — you likely have accounts in categories you
haven't thought about.

## How to Use

Go through each category. For every account you have, add it using:

# Platform Legacy & Deceased Account Policies

Major platforms' policies for handling accounts after death or incapacitation.
Use this to specify the right wishes for each account in your digital legacy
plan.

## Google (Gmail, Drive, Photos, YouTube)

### Inactive Account Manager

Google's built-in feature for digital legacy.

- **Setup**: myaccount.google.com → Data & Privacy → Inactive Account Manager
- **Timeout**: Choose 3, 6, 12, or 18 months of inactivity
- **Action**: Share data with up to 10 trusted contacts, then optionally delete
- **Trigger**: No sign-in for the chosen period

**Recommendation**: Set this up. It's the most automated digital legacy tool
available.

### Without Inactive Account Manager

- Family can request account closure with a death certificate
- Google does NOT provide password or account access to family
- Data may be obtainable via court order (rare, expensive)

## Apple (iCloud, Apple ID)

### Legacy Contact

- **Setup**: Settings → [Your Name] → Password & Security → Legacy Contact
- **Available**: iOS 15.2+, macOS 12.1+
- **How it works**: Designate a contact who gets an Access Key. After death,
  they request access with the key + death certificate.
- **What they get**: Photos, files, notes, messages — everything in iCloud
- **What they DON'T get**: Subscriptions, licensed media (movies/music), in-app
  purchases

**Recommendation**: Set up a Legacy Contact immediately if using Apple devices.

### Without Legacy Contact

- Apple requires a court order to transfer data
- Death certificate alone is NOT sufficient
- Active subscriptions continue billing until cancelled

## Facebook / Meta

### Legacy Contact

- **Setup**: Settings → Memorialization Settings → Legacy Contact
- **How it works**: Choose a friend to manage your memorialized profile
- **What they can do**: Pin a post, respond to friend requests, update profile
  photo
- **What they CANNOT do**: Read your messages, log in as you, delete posts

### Memorialization

- Profile becomes "Remembering [Name]"
- Friends can still post memories
- No one can log in
- Content stays visible per your privacy settings

### Account Deletion

- Family can request permanent deletion with death certificate
