Mobile Comparison Agent

An AI-powered, full-stack mobile phone recommendation & comparison agent. Users describe what they need in plain English ("best gaming phone under 25k"); the app parses intent with a Groq-hosted Llama model, scores phones with a deterministic weighted engine, explains every recommendation, and lets users compare two phones side-by-side with an AI verdict.

Tech stack

Backend: FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, PostgreSQL (SQLite fallback for local dev), Groq/Llama, Redis (in-memory fallback), Pandas
Frontend: React + TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS v3.4.3, Axios, React Router, Zustand, lucide-react

Architecture

Route  ->  Service  ->  DAO  ->  SQLAlchemy models  ->  PostgreSQL
                 \-> LLM (explanations only)  \-> Redis (conversation memory)

The LLM never invents specs, prices, or scores. All numbers come from the database + the deterministic scoring engine; Groq/Llama is used only for intent parsing and natural-language explanations/verdicts.

1. Backend setup

Configure `.env`

Local (zero setup): leave DATABASE_URL=sqlite:///./mobile_agent.db.
PostgreSQL: set DATABASE_URL=postgresql://postgres:PASSWORD@localhost:5432/mobile_agent. The app auto-creates the database if it does not exist.
Groq (optional): set GROQ_API_KEY. Without it, a deterministic rule-based intent parser and verdict generator are used, so the app still runs.
Redis (optional): run docker run -d --name redis-server -p 6379:6379 redis. Without Redis, conversation memory falls back to in-process storage.

Seed the database (run from project root)

2. Frontend setup

cd frontend
npm install
npm run dev

Opens on http://localhost:5173. The dev server proxies /api to the backend on port 8000 (see vite.config.ts), so run the backend first.

Project status

Done: recommendation engine, deterministic scoring, derived scores, intent parsing, Redis memory, recommendation UI, compare selection + drawer, full compare flow (backend + side-by-side + AI verdict), phone details page.

Deferred / next: benchmark charts, review-signal visualisation, AI chat assistant, and real Flipkart price scraping (intentionally postponed).

Notes on the sample dataset

data/phones_dataset.csv ships with 14 realistic sample phones so the app works out of the box. Replace it with your own dataset and re-run the seeder.
