CrewAI 03 – IT Service Desk Agent
Part 3 of 3 of a CrewAI learning series, mirroring my LangChain series.
A tool-using CrewAI agent for IT service desk questions. The agent answers questions about IT services and decides on its own when to call a tool to look up the current status or the responsible contact before replying.
This is the CrewAI counterpart to my LangChain service desk agent: same task, different framework. Built as part of my move from IT support into AI engineering.
Business value: targets repetitive lookups such as service status and ownership, the lever for faster first response without interrupting the specialist teams.

What it demonstrates

In a real deployment the tools would query a monitoring system and a staff
directory instead of the example tables. Every line in
crew_agent.py is commented.

Quickstart
Requires uv and an OpenAI API key. uv handles the Python version (3.13) automatically.
uv sync # create the environment and install dependencies
cp .env.example .env # then put your real OPENAI_API_KEY into .env
uv run crew_agent.py # ask the example question
The tools know VPN, e-mail, printer and SAP. Ask about a status, a contact, or both at once and watch the agent choose.
