# 🔍 Prismfy Web Search
**Default web search for OpenClaw.** Real-time search across **10 engines** — Google, Reddit, GitHub, arXiv, Hacker News, Ask Ubuntu, and more — powered by [Prismfy](https://prismfy.io).
No proxy hassle, no CAPTCHA, no blocked requests. Just results.
> **Free tier available** — no credit card needed. Free tier includes Google (with limits). Get your key at [prismfy.io](https://prismfy.io).
---
## Setup
### 1. Install the skill
```bash
openclaw skills install prismfy-search
```
---
### 2. Get an API key
Head to [prismfy.io](https://prismfy.io), create a free account, and grab your API key from **Dashboard → API Keys**.
No credit card required.
---
### 3. Add the key to your environment
**Option A — Shell profile (permanent)**
```bash
# Add to ~/.zshrc or ~/.bashrc:
export PRISMFY_API_KEY="ss_live_your_key_here"
# Then reload:
source ~/.zshrc # or: source ~/.bashrc
```
**Option B — OpenClaw env config**
Add `PRISMFY_API_KEY=ss_live_your_key_here` to your OpenClaw environment settings.
---
### 4. Verify it works
```bash
bash search.sh --quota
```
You should see your plan, searches used, and how many you have left.
---
That's it. No credit card, no waitlist.
---
## How to use
```
/search best practices for React Server Components
/search --engine reddit "is cursor better than copilot"
/search --engine github "openai realtime api examples"
/search --engine arxiv "attention is all you need"
/search --engine hackernews "postgres vs sqlite 2025"
/search --engine google "tailwind v4 migration guide"
/search --time week "openai gpt-5 release"
/search --domain docs.python.org "asyncio gather"
/search --engines reddit,google "best mechanical keyboard 2025"
```
Or just talk naturally:
- *"Search Reddit for people's opinions on Bun vs Node"*
- *"Find recent GitHub repos for building MCP servers"*
- *"Look up the arXiv paper on chain-of-thought prompting"*
- *"What are people saying on Hacker News about SQLite?"*

# 🔍 Prismfy Search — Ready
You have **Prismfy Search** available. Use it whenever you need live information from the web.
## How to search
```bash
bash search.sh "your query here"
```
With options:
```bash
bash search.sh --engine brave "query" # general web (free)
bash search.sh --engine bing "query" # news & broad coverage (paid)
bash search.sh --engine reddit "query" # community opinions & discussions
bash search.sh --engine github "query" # code, repos, issues
bash search.sh --engine hackernews "query" # tech community, startups
bash search.sh --engine arxiv "query" # academic papers, research
bash search.sh --engines brave,bing "query" # multiple engines at once
bash search.sh --time week "query" # filter to last 7 days
bash search.sh --domain github.com "query" # search within a specific site
bash search.sh --quota # check remaining quota
```
## When to search
Prefer real search results over training data whenever the answer might have changed or needs to be current:
| Situation | Recommended |
|-----------|-------------|
| Recent news or events | search first |
| Library versions, API docs, changelogs | search first |
| Community opinions (Reddit, HN) | search first |
| Code examples, GitHub repos | search first |
| Academic papers | search first |
| Pricing, availability, release dates | search first |
| Pure math or logic | answer directly |
| Writing or editing tasks | answer directly |
**When in doubt, a quick search takes seconds and prevents wrong answers.**
## Good to know
- **Default engines** (no `--engine`): `brave` + `yahoo` in parallel — both free
- **Cached results cost zero quota** — re-searching a recent query is free
- Always cite sources (title + URL) when presenting search results
## If `PRISMFY_API_KEY` is not set
Let the user know:
> "Prismfy Search is installed but `PRISMFY_API_KEY` is not configured yet.
> Get a free key (3,000 searches/month, no credit card) at [prismfy.io](https://prismfy.io), then run:
> `export PRISMFY_API_KEY=ss_live_...`"skill-card.md
## Description: Default web search for OpenClaw that uses Prismfy to search engines such as Google, Reddit, GitHub, arXiv, Hacker News, and others, with a bundled shell helper for search, quota checks, engine filters, time filters, and domain filters. This skill is ready for commercial/non-commercial use. ## Publisher: [uroboros1205](https://clawhub.ai/user/uroboros1205) ### License/Terms of Use: MIT-0 ## Use Case: External users and developers use this skill to add live web search to OpenClaw, retrieve current search results, check Prismfy quota, and filter searches by engine, time range, domain, page, or language. ### Deployment Geography for Use: Global ## Known Risks and Mitigations: Risk: Broad default-search behavior can send ordinary user requests to an external Prismfy service more often than users may expect. Mitigation: Install only if Prismfy is acceptable as the default search provider, and narrow use to explicit search commands in stricter privacy environments. Risk: Sensitive terms, secrets, private code, customer data, or confidential internal details may be exposed if included in requests that trigger search. Mitigation: Avoid entering sensitive content in requests that may trigger search, and review intended queries before execution. ## Reference(s): - [Prismfy homepage](https://prismfy.io) - [ClawHub skill page](https://clawhub.ai/uroboros1205/skills/prismfy-search) - [ClawHub publisher profile](https://clawhub.ai/user/uroboros1205) ## Skill Output: **Output Type(s):** [Text, Markdown, Shell commands, Configuration, Guidance] **Output Format:** [Markdown text with source links and inline shell commands; raw JSON is available from the helper script when requested.] **Output Parameters:** [1D] **Other Properties Related to Output:** [Search results include title, URL, snippet, source engine, cache status, result count, and quota information when requested.] ## Skill Version(s): 1.3.8 (source: server release evidence; artifact frontmatter reports 1.2.1) ## Ethical Considerations: Users should evaluate whether this skill is appropriate for their environment, review any generated or modified files before relying on them, and apply their organization's safety, security, and compliance requirements before deployment.
